about Lisa Jenkinson- Lila J

I began singing in 1985 when I defiantly joined the “all boys” choir at the local church in Essex.I continued to hone my skills as a vocalist throughout my 20’s and 30’s in various bands such as ‘Cosmic Wibble’, ‘The Present’, ‘Lila’ and now with my partner Gavin, in ‘Lila J’. Having picked up a guitar for the first time at the age of 25, I have been working on my own material ever since. ‘LILA J is the culmination of these years and my quirky, creative nature is reflected in our songs.

GAV

About Gav Jones - Lila JAs far back as I can remember, I loved listening to music, so much so, I learned to play various instruments around the age of 15. I played with the infamous punk band ‘Foreheads in a Fishtank’ in my twenties, recording 3 albums and 2 Peel sessions. Since then, after re-discovering the importance of playing for fun, it has been a pleasure to find myself doing exactly that in ‘LILA J’. For the first time in years I enjoy writing songs and playing them live, I have my old friend Lisa to thank for that. I’ve decided to devote the rest of my life to pursuing the perfect riff.

About TEN - Lila J

It’s a ” stick thing”  From a young age I would find sticks, chopsticks, utensils etc and just have to tap out a rhythm on anything with anything. Always feet and hands on the go with whatever music is playing, used to drive folk mad, now it’s just my neighbors. I guess it was inevitable that one day I would put it to good use. It’s like dancing and riding a bicycle at once, often time every limb is banging out a different beat in synchronicity. In 2014 I branched out from recording  at home into the majic of live performance and have had the great pleasure of accompanying some favorite musicians in the Shire.  Many a happy hour and years spent , in several collaborations, a soft rock covers Band, a full Brass section Ska Band and hosting open mic. My happy place beats are Trip Hop, Bossa Nova and Ska. After hijacking their set with my sticks at a garden party,  I know find myself in the envious position of being part of something  special with Lila J as this great Duo expand into a full Group with a top selection of home brewed tunes and funky as attitude to playing and creating for fun. The best of beats to you. Ten
