As far back as I can remember, I loved listening to music, so much so, I learned to play various instruments around the age of 15. I played with the infamous punk band 'Foreheads in a Fishtank' in my twenties, recording 3 albums and 2 Peel sessions.
Since then, after re-discovering the importance of playing for fun, it has been a pleasure to find myself doing exactly that in 'LILA J'. For the first time in years I enjoy writing songs and playing them live, I have my old friend Lisa to thank for that.
I've decided to devote the rest of my life to pursuing the perfect riff.
I began singing in 1985 when I defiantly joined the “all boys” choir at the local church in Essex. I continued to hone my skills as a vocalist throughout my 20's and 30's in various bands such as 'Cosmic Wibble', 'The Present', 'Lila' and now with my partner Gavin, in 'LILA J'.
Having picked up a guitar for the first time at the age of 25, I have been working on my own material ever since. 'LILA J is the culmination of these years and my quirky, creative nature is reflected in our songs.
By the age of 15, I had begun my journey with music. Driven by a deep desire to be involved with all things musical, I was led to be part of various punk/metal bands as a guitarist. At 18 I started to study music at college, learning to play other instruments such as percussion, keyboard and bass, before going onto The University of Gloucestershire, to study popular music. During which time, I toured with “GiGi St. Fallow” around the UK. Soon after graduation, I met Gavin and auditioned as a bass player for LILA J.
So, a new chapter in my musical adventure has begun, where I am once again pushing myself in a new kind of musical experience, which is expanding my horizons allowing me to develop my playing.
Damon T was born in the Bronx, New York. Having grown up loving music but needing to provide for his family, he came to professional music later in life but is now an accomplished singer & multi-instrumentalist. He has an established solo career when not helping LILA J ; his music has a pure down-home country blues sound, heavily rhythm-oriented guitar style, thumb strumming bass lines and single-note melodies, whilst simultaneously playing the percussion (stompbox/snare/foot-tambourine).
It is this multi instrumental percussion that he brings to LILA J.
Adding a quirky beat as opposed to a straight forward drum beat, give the organic sound LILA J require. “I knew this band needed percussion instead of a drummer and that is why I am happy to be a part of LILA J.”
